should have chosen the shovel......

....... for today we have nothing but rain!
as i type and look out of the window i can no longer see the sea
just grey, grey, greyness......

the sunny days were not wasted - we had the joy of having to remove Rodders from the girls as he was becoming a sex pest.......
sadly it was not in a nice kind of way, but in a "if you do not give me what i want i will run at you with my rather large horns" kind of way
we hope that the girls refusal (after being VERY keen) means that they are indeed in lamb and now see Rodders as a rather useless, disposable item.........
he is now back in his own field with his repaired shelter complaining very loudly to anyone that cares to listen.....

the rainy day has made me sit and work on orders and samples which is a good thing.
i am so behind in making all the nice new items i had planned for this year, totally missed Valentines Day and am now desperately attempting to make at least a few Mother's Day items before i start on Easter!
in order to take my little business any further i have to become more organised.

i have also had time to read part of this beautiful book which i was so lucky to receive (amongst so many other good things!) from this lady for the Valentine Swap, that was organised by this lady!

it is full of the most beautiful, soulful letters from men that were so clearly in love.....

from my own sweet Valentine this year came the most unexpected, but brilliant gift that i have ever had for Valentine's Day.....

my own heart shaped log!!!
it arrived with our standard log delivery whilst i was away and my keen eyed lad spotted it and rescued it....
after much sanding to make the top beautifully smooth and to bring out the glorious grain, it then spent a good few days in the bottom of the Rayburn slowly, slowy drying out.

I LOVE IT

obviously since my return and much leaping around at this marvelous find, i have rummaged through that log pile in search of yet more treasures..... sadly none so far.

i do however have more treasures by my bedside at the moment.....

a trio of books that mean so very much.....

* an embroidery book that belonged to my nana which has, at some point, been in the hands of my sister who has left her name inside written in the most perfect "little girls" handwriting x
my mama gave this to me and i will treasure it always along with the note that she popped inside

* Nurse Matilda - as soon as i saw this book i remembered it from my childhood, not for the story which to be honest i may never have read all the way through, but for the memory of being really frightened of the drawings of Nurse Matilda!
i will now have the delight in reading it from cover to cover x

* Engagements - this book belonged to my nana and i was lucky enough to be given it on my last visit home.
it was found whilst sorting through my Grandads belongings... the fact that he kept it so many years after my nana's death makes me realise, even more, how truly in love they were.... soulmates x
to me, there is something magical about seeing the handwriting of my nana from 1979 - i would only have been seven years old - it has details of when my nana was at work, telephone and contact details for my own mama when we lived in Germany, notes about how many balls of yarn were needed for a knitting project (she was a great knitter) and quite a few numbers for mobile disco's.... a party must have taken place that year - my Grandparents were never shy of a dance floor :)

happy memories are a wonderful thing

What lovely memories you will enjoy as you read you books. I expect Rodders happy memories have come to an abrupt end with the refusal of affection from the girls. As for the shovel there will be many more shovelling days, so stay warm and cosy while you can.
love jules xx

Awww poor old Rodders lol I'm sure he'll become useful to the girls again, once they've lambed. He'll just have to wait and like all good things come to those who wait lol
Beautiful heart log what a wonderful Valentine's gift, your Stephen is a clever guy.
And such lovely memories you've been left by your fabulous grandparents, they will live on forever.
Can't wait to see what crafty items you've made for Mother's day and Easter.
Where is this year going? it is flying by, Jade just turned 14 and Molly was 4 on Saturday. Daisy's 3 next month. I just wish for a stop watch that could stop time, even just for a little while.

Happy memories and days my lovely friend.
Big hugs,
Catherine x

I have been useless at catching up recently. So much has happened in your life and so I send you my belated best wishes and thoughts for the future.

Your crochet squares are gorgeous, lovely to see them in softer shades. Also your description of Rodders as a sex pest had me laughing. Poor ram or should it be poor sheep?

Tons of snow, but it looks beautiful up there.
