the ducks....

for those that took note of my last blog on the ducks where i harped on about how wonderful they are and how every small garden should have some........
i can only apologise .....

ducks are indeed wonderful and our motley crew give me so much happiness each and every day, but the mess, the mess, the mess!!!

i had not realised that ducks love mud more than they love water.....
oh my
they turned our very green duck area in to a mud wrestling arena in no time at all...

now
we are very lucky in that we have a large area for the mud fiends with scope to increase the area should we need to but those with a smaller garden please take note.... if you value your lawn and flowers and are in anyway proud of your garden then do not let a group of ducks loose!

the pictures say it all....

how very happy these ducks are :)

Can I be added to the Sea house blog?

I've enjoyed your blogging and have been back reading. I've finally caught up and I've been missing the Sea house pictures.....I'm not a stalker, I promise!

Didn't want to rain on your parade as we learnt the hard way too! I still love them (but they are penned now In the garden rather than running all over it) x

Not as bad as pigs! Don't even let them within sniffing distance of your garden! The ducks do look very joyful, though, and what's a little mud between friends?

Bless them!!
they are so funny, ducks have so much character!!
our neighbour has a white lady duck called 'crispy',she lives indoors at night!! and his tomato plants are no more, well the cherry ones anyway as crispy is rather partial to a cherry tom!!

How very happy they do look, but how is it that at our village green and the many other places where ducks reside around a pond here, that they do not do this mud slinging lark. I think the art must be to reduce the amount of grass and increase the size of the swimming facilities maybe? I love ducks and I also love gardening! Any tips?

i know duck behaviour only too well..we rescued an abandoned muscovy duckling still with its little egg tooth ..and we cared for and loved her until we had to let her go to be with other ducks..well u can imagine the car journey..my children still talk about that journey ..they are 28 and 31!!

hi tracey, hope you are welll, long time no speak. we have 2 ducks down in our wooded area so the mess is minimal. They are very destructive they can clean years of moss and leafmould off of our trees in hours, so I agree not for the faint hearted maybe a couple of hens would be better.
ps how is the house going, we are coming to the end of a long hot summer with lots of outside jobs coming to completion, but I'm itching to get inside now and finish the cottages
love jules xx

They obviously love their home. Have you any plans to convert the mud into a duckpond yet? It looks as if they're doing it for you!

My husband always says no to ducks and geese he tells me they would ruin the garden and the wildlife pond would be no more.

Happy muddy ducks indeed. LOL
I could just see our Daisy in with them making mud pies in all that and them just waddling around her lol
You've not put us off wanting some one day but it's been very helpful to see them and how they need lots of space.
Maybe just a couple and not 12 for us but I'm sure I'd be the same when the time came to choose just 2
Hope to speak soon.
Lots of love,

Hi,

Looks like they are digging themselves a pond!

Interesting fence is it to offer the ducks protection from the wind?

yikes T!!! I've just acquired a trio of gorgeous mud loving duckies by accident..(they were about to be dispatched for no reason, so of course, they had to come home and live with me)looks like I shall be waving goodbye to the lawn then! love the squirrel by the way in the post above, he's really rather gorgeous! xx
