skipping a beat

a heavy mist has been hanging over the sea today, and it has rained on and off.....
in between downpours i quickly pulled on my Hunters and trooped off round the field with the hounds......
Mabel running around gathering big patches of mud on her lovely white coat, Talulla rushing to the section of field where the rabbits have built an underground palace (so many doors!!!), and poor old Bean taking a few steps forward with her tail between her legs and then vigorously shaking :)

i poked my nose out from under my jacket and my heart skipped a beat.....
and not in a good way.....
apart from the fact that Rodders has decided that a window in the side of his house is in fact not grand enough, and that what he actually needs is French doors, and thus he has felt the need to remove almost the entire wall.......
why oh why did we bother?
nope - my heart skipped a beat because all of the girls had vanished....
i picked up pace and by now the rain had begun again, so Bean was clinging to my leg which quite frankly makes walking at a faster pace quite tricky, and also gives the builders something to laugh at as they just wait for me to fall flat on my face.......

as we all skidded down the mudslide that was once a grassy bank it all becomes clear, and my heart skips a beat......
in a good way
for all six girls are huddled beneath their shelter x
being good girls they have refrained from making any designer changes and seem, so far, content with their new abode.

as we turn for home the rain really starts and Bean has sprinted off only to stand outside the trailer door shaking - stupid dog - the rest of us forge bravely on to check on the ponies....
they also have a shelter which they only go in when it is blowing a gale - the Shetlands are sturdy beasts that really do not mind a rainy day, but hate, hate, hate the wind.
they are galloping around the field like loonies with dear old Rodders running along the adjoining fence line - i worry that he will one day forget that he is a sheep...........

when we finally reach base camp and manage to traipse muddy water all through the trailer, over the hideous seating area and also on the bed (thanks Bean), i spend the rest of the afternoon chatting to a neighbours 17 year old daughter who is on the brink of moving away from home and starting her first real job
it was such a special afternoon listening to her hopes and dreams, giving her my advice and generally feeling rather old!!
i would hate to be 17 again, i am happy to be in my thirties and am convinced that my fourties will be even better - but as i sat today chatting about all the possibilities this sweet, sweet girl has ahead of her, i did think of all the things that i wished i had done when i was younger....

it made me realise that you have to grab at all that breezes past you, never feel that you cannot do something - just give it a go....

i am off to re write my must do list :)

Phew, my heart would have been in my mouth! Glad the girls were wisely tucked up...even if the boys weren't! Been away, so just catching up here. Love your bunting, it's so beautiful. And progress at Sea House is exciting. Bet you can really picture yourselves in there now.

Love the pictures, it's so strange how wind affects animals - my hens don't mind rain in the least, but when the wind gets up some of them head for their house - the others just stay in their tree and complain...very loudly!

And they say sheep brainless - maybe the males are, but the females are surely wise!

I like the way Rodders has a slightly rebellious character - can't help but feel a 'tame' ram would be somehow less of a ram?!

There you are, they love the shelter. I can only imagine how difficult it must be in the rain with the dogs and the trailer. Still, hold on as it won't be too long and you'll have forgotten all about it. xx

I think rodders is trying to tell you something honey, he dreams to be a chippy on DIY SOS hehe!
What good girls snuggling down in their shelter out of thr rain and wind.
I bet they all looked so cute inside looking out at you.
Bless Bean not wanting to go very far in that sort of weather, best place to be cuddled up to Mum's legs. Even if she's trying to walk lol
Have a lovley week, hope the rain's cleared. We've woken up to bright clear skies. Crisp nip in the air, saying Christmas is coming.
Mnay warm hugs,

We must hope that Rodders remembers who he is, the Shetlands are still entire aren't they?

Glad they were safe. I love the confidence I now have and I wouldn't go back to the teens for anything!

Sorry to read you're feeling blue .... I hope you'll bounce back soon.

I blame the changing of the seasons .... shorter days, longer nights, pants weather .... roll on the next change when it all gets brighter again!
